Piktochart Practice

Characteristics of the Group

Age: Adolescents/Adults
Level: B2- C1

Comments: The students use their own laptops in class.

Directions

Start with a blank chart. Create an info-graphic advertisement promoting a good habit.
1.       Present your topic and support it with 3 reasons.
2.       Include at least 3 blocks;
3.       Each of them with a different background colour;
4.       Include one video, one graphic and one picture;
5.       Include text (short and sweet), and
6.       You may use icons.

Criteria for Evaluation

1.       Your topic should be clear and the reasons valid;
2.       Do not make any spelling or grammatical mistake, and
3.       Show that you know how to use Piktochart by using the elements required in an attractive way.

How to Create an Account
Complete the form with your personal information and click “Create my account”. Do not forget to confirm your e-mail account. They will email you a link which you have to access in order to confirm your account. You can also create an account using your Facebook or Google account.
The free version is very useful but limited. By paying a small amount of money you can get pro and access to better templates and more advanced tools





How to Create a Piktochart
Immediately after you create your account you can start working.




1.       Click here to go back to this page (in case you are already working and you want to change the theme)
2.       Click here to see all your saved Piktocharts.
3.       Click here so see a drop down menu that contains options concerning the administration of your account and your saved projects.
4. Choose the format you prefer.



5.       Write on this bar the name of the theme that you need for easier search.
6.       Piktochart offers you some help in case you do not understand how to use this tool.
7.       Another way to find the appropriate theme is scrolling down until you find the right one.





1.       On a blank canvas you can add everything that you need: Graphics, background, texts, maps, graphs or videos.
2.       Click here to view a drop down menu with different icons separated into categories.
3.       Click here to add another block.
4.       Click here to view a drop down menu with different images separated into categories.
5.       Click here to upload images from your computer.
6.       Click on this button and then click on the letters in order to change the background colour.
7.       Click on this button to see some formats
8.       Click here to add a chart, video or map.
9.       Click here to see a drop down menu for saving or starting a new canvas.
10.   Click here to upload your canvas to SurveyMonkey.
11.   Save your canvas.
12. Download, publish or share it.




Publishing a Piktochart

Once you are satisfied with your work click “publish” and select whether you want to save it as download it as image (JPG or PNG), HTML or share it on a social network.

Directions

1. Search for some English or American newspapers online.
2. Create the introduction of an article from a newspaper. 
3. Add a headline and a date.
4. Send your newspaper clipping to your classmate and finish your classmate's article.

Criteria for Evaluation

1. The events should be clear and valid;
2. Do not make any spelling or grammatical mistake, and
3. Show that you know how to use Fodey by including: a headline, a date, an introduction. And send your newspaper clipping to your classmate.

1. You DO NOT need to create an account to work with this tool.
2. Although this page contains many other interesting tools, we will focus on the newspaper clipping generator.



3. Write a title for your newspaper.
4. Write the date and the headline.
5. Write or paste the article.
6. Click on "generate!".

7. Once you finish, download your image.

About Fodey

What is Fodey?

Fodey is a web tool that allows the user to input text into a form and convert it into a variety of formats such as newspaper clippings, wizard text and talking owls.

Why Use Fodey?


Because it is very simple to use, free, very easy to download and embed, requires no login, and generates a bulletin board worthy product. Keep in mind that what the generator produces is, what looks like newspaper clippings, not whole articles. It also includes a range of functions/ ideas off the Fodey website, which could serve a number of purposes and provide a great resource to motivate learners.

Make Beliefs Comix Practice

Characteristics of the Group

Age: 11-year-olds
Level: B1

Comments: The students use their own laptops in class.

Directions

1. Find some comic books or comic strips from newspapers. Pay attention to the different bubbles which are used (thoughts, speech, exclamations, noises).

2. Create a comic strip by starting your storyline using this introduction: "What's wrong?".Use at least 3 panels.

3. Send your comic strip to your classmate and comment on your classmates' work.

Criteria for Evaluation

1. Your storyline should be clear and valid;
2. Do not make any spelling or grammatical mistake, and
3. Show that you know how to use Make Beliefs Comix by including: at least 3 panels, backgrounds, characters, bubbles and objects.
